Potential of tourism industry in Guinea-Bissau

Blessed with an unmatched natural beauty, Guinea-Bissau is emerging as a latest hotspot on the map of the global tourism industry. Situated on the very north-west coast of the African continent, the country has a pleasant climate all over the year.  One of the Portuguese colonies in the past, it attracts the European tourists, no doubt mainly from Portugal. Exotic beaches and amazing landscapes are capable enough to attract any tourist. As a surplus feature the people are very used to with the Portuguese language. The tourism sector holds higher potential to provide investment opportunities in Guinea-Bissau. 

Just as any other African country, Guinea-Bissau is also suffering from lack of resources.  An unexceptionally rich natural beauty is yet to be discovered and exploited for the benefit of local people and the improvement of the economy as well. A comprehensive, detailed and resourceful business strategy is the need of time. The tourism sector is waiting for international investors and their business know-how. Government of Guinea- Bissau is also determined for development of tourism sector in the country. Special attention to infrastructure and communication sector is also being given. 

Even after the presence of large potential of investment opportunities in Guinea-Bissau in this sector, there are still many problems that are needed to be cured first. Negative reputation, presence of the international drug mafia, lack of basic amenities (good hotels, transportation and very expensive services) and high rate of HIV cases are some big challenges to overcome .
